Pitcher, 7.75 inches tall and basin, 5.25 inches diameter. Maker is Stonier, Hollinshead & Oliver. The pitcher features the same central image on both sides: a round cartouche with an image of three sailing ships at sea with gulls in the foreground. The cartouche is framed by seaweed and shells. Bands of seaweed decorate the outside and inside rims, the handle, and the front of the pitcher. The basin features two clumps of seaweed opposite each other near the rim.
Upper Hanley Works, High Street. In 1875 Messrs. Hollinshead & Stonier, at that time of the Ranelagh Works, were joined in partnership by Mr. Holmes and removed to this manufactory where they carried on the business under the style of Holmes, Stonier and Hollinshead until 1882. Then it was changed to Stonier, Hollinshead and Oliver. Their productions are the more useful classes of earthenware and white granite for the home, American, Cape, and Australian markets.
