Plate, 10.5 inches diameter. Purple transfer. Printed maker's mark for Thomas Booth & Son. The registry diamond indicates a pattern registration date of 14 August 1872. This pattern features a circular image in the well of a crouching lion amongst tall grasses and ferns. The border consists of alternating classical motifs in medallions connected by a string of pearls and a geometric band.
Thomas Booth (the founder of the business) died in 1872 and his son Thomas Gimbert Booth took over the business on his account. The title became Thomas Booth & Son.
