Underplate, 7.75 x 6 inches (19.7x15.24cm). Printed maker's mark for Thomas Booth & Son. This pattern features a large stylized flower with six petals and a large round sunburst-decorated center anchors the design. The outline of each petal serves as a cartouche framing groups of smaller stylized leaves and flowers resembling chrysanthemums and begonias. Two rings with repeated floral elements surround the large flower: an inner ring of arch-shaped leaves filled with dots and tulips, and an outer ring of alternating tulips and partial chrysanthemums. The border design consists of repeated interconnecting scrolls and stylized flowers suggesting lotus blossoms and water lilies.
Thomas Booth (the founder of the business) died in 1872 and his son Thomas Gimbert Booth took over the business on his account. The title became Thomas Booth & Son.
