Plate, 6.5 inches diameter. Brown transfer. Printed and impressed maker's marks for Edge, Malkin & Co. This pattern features a countryside scene. Cows in a meadow, a roadway leading to a bridge over a small pond on which boats are floating, and a cottage with large trees behind it. In the foreground sprays of wildflowers arch over the scene, and in the background is a small village with church steeple visible. The border changes from a simple geometric one to a more complex one with several zigzag and amorphous cartouches at the base.
The partners of Edge, Malkin & Co. were Joseph Edge, William Millett Edge, John Wilcox Edge, and James Malkin. In 1892 John Wilcox Edge retired from the business. In 1893 James Malkin retired and William Spencer Millett Edge joined the business. In 1894 Sydney Malkin left the partnership and the business was continued by the Edge family alone - the name Edge, Malkin & Co. was continued. By 1902 the business was bankrupt and went into voluntary liquidation. S. Webster Dean (who was the chairman of Edge, Malkin & Co.) continued the business until 1910.
