Plate, 8.875 inches diameter. Brown transfer. Printed maker's mark for Smith, Ford & Jones. The Rd. No. 121348 indicates a pattern registration date of 1889. The printed "Semi Porcelain" was used in the late-19th century to indicate a more refined body type of earthenware. It is not translucent. This is a simple border-only pattern with three bunches of small forget-me-not flowers and larger leaves encircling the empty well.
There were three successive partnerships: Smith, Ford & Jones, Smith & Ford, and then Samuel Ford & Co. of Lincoln Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire.
