Soap dish, 5.25 x 5.25 x 4 inches. Blue transfer. Printed maker's mark for Smith, Ford & Jones. There is also an impressed mark inside an oblong cartouche which is not legible. The pattern consists of highly-stylized flowers and foliage with delicate, scrolling stems intermixed with ornately-decorated forms. The border consists of swags in a triangular shape filled with one large daisy-like blossom and tiny squiggles. Between the swags are tree-like forms with branches of more squiggles.
There were three successive partnerships: Smith, Ford & Jones, Smith & Ford, and then Samuel Ford & Co. of Lincoln Pottery, Burslem, Staffordshire.
