Plate, 8 inches diameter. Red transfer. Printed maker's mark for Whittaker & Co. dates this pattern to c. 1886-1890. This pattern features a large, oddly-shaped cartouche in the center, in-filled with a countryside scene. In the foreground a fisherman in a boat sits on a lake surrounded by a fence. In the middle ground, a large country house sits between trees and bushes. A path curves from the house into the background, where a distant town can be seen. A small, lone figure walks on the path. The cartouche is framed by an abundance of flowers and foliage. The entire scene is bordered by alternating organic motifs, similar to leaves and flower buds.
