Jug with pewter lid, 5 inches tall. Brown transfer with polychrome clobbering. Printed maker's mark for C. & Co., most likely J. H. Cope & Co. of the Wellington Works in Longton, Staffordshire, England from 1887-1946. This incongruously named pattern features two overlapping cartouches with scenes set against a cluster of wildflowers, grasses, and wheat. The lower rectangular cartouches features a countryside scene of a field bisected by a wooden fence. The upper oval cartouche features a scene of a medieval city on the banks of a river.
