Tray, 8 x 6 inches. Blue transfer with gilding. Printed mark for Forester & Hulme. This pattern is highly stylized and geometric, featuring a well with stylized aster flowers surrounded by small spirals and a wide border of aster plants separated by narrow blue lines forming an arch over each flower. The entire pattern is bordered by a simple gilded line.
Thomas Forester started earthenware manufacture at the works in 1884 and continued until 1887/78. Forester then took Joseph Booth Hulme into partnership c. 1887 and they operated as Forester and Hulme. This partnership continued until December 1892 when Thomas Forester left the business. Hulme then entered into partnership with John James Christie - operating as Hulme & Christie.
