MessageI'm Aaryan Shanmuga, an 11-year-old artist. I discovered my love for art when I was 4 and have been painting ever since. I’m especially inspired by animals and nature, which is why I often enjoy painting and drawing them. I like to explore different styles and use bright colours to express my ideas. Art helps me share how I see the world, and I'm always excited to learn new techniques and get better at what I love.
Statement
Aaryan Shanmuga is a Singapore-based emerging artist who has been practicing art since the age of four. Now 11 years old, he has developed a focused interest in painting and visual storytelling, using art as a means to observe, interpret, and respond to the natural world.
Aaryan’s primary inspiration comes from animals and nature. He is particularly drawn to the vitality, movement, and emotional presence of wildlife, which he translates into expressive visual compositions. His observations of animal behaviour such as the early independence and resilience of young animals in the wild, influences both his artistic themes and personal values. These reflections shape his approach to art as a medium for learning, awareness, and communication.
Working predominantly with acrylic paints on watercolour paper and art blocks, Aaryan explores modern art styles characterised by bold colour palettes and dynamic forms. He approaches each artwork as part of an ongoing learning process, valuing experimentation and growth as essential elements of his artistic development.
Aaryan’s artistic vision centres on raising awareness about wildlife conservation and the protection of endangered species. Through his work, he seeks to highlight the essential role animals play in sustaining ecological balance and environmental stability. As he is currently unable to participate in conservation efforts through volunteering, he intends to contribute by donating a portion of his art proceeds to wildlife conservation initiatives.
His thematic focus includes animals, natural scenery, and landscapes that reflect the beauty and importance of the natural environment. Aaryan is influenced by environmental advocates and contemporary artists whose work and values align with conservation, sustainability, and creative expression, including Anant Ambani, Daniel Wilson, Greta Thunberg, Debmalya Roy Chowdhury, Rahul Talekar and Shariq Shafi.
With the support of his parents, Aaryan actively shares his artwork through online art platforms and curated opportunities. He continues to refine his practice, with the aim of creating meaningful artworks that encourage dialogue, awareness, and a deeper sense of responsibility towards nature.
