Bronzes was used to decorate the royal palace, because they have a variety of function in ritual and courtly life of the kingdom of Benin. As a country art, their main objective was to glorify the Oba ( the divine king ) and the history of his imperial power or to honor the queen mother. When a king died, his successor would order that a bronzes head to be made of his predecessor.
