This 39.4" x 31.5" acrylic painting on linen by Warsaw, Poland-based artist Ewa Miazek-Mioduszewska depicts two black cats facing one another. The color scheme features a vibrant yellow, blue and green landscape, and the many geometric elements like horizontal shapes and semi-arches create a composition that combines the figurative and abstract. The shapes appear as though they are cut-outs of the composition. Miazek is particularly interested in the art of antiquity and medieval paintings, which influences her practice. In this work, the viewer might find that the two cats central to the scene are reminiscent of grotesques found in Books of Hours.
Miazek is a multi-disciplinary artist and frequently works with oil paint, acrylic paint and gouache. She primarily creates work that centers architecture or animals.
