Bodement 1

The “Bodement 1” aims to highlight the links between the artwork, which focuses on the analysis of structural changes and dynamics of the symbols, and craftsmanship in which the repetition of the ornaments is symbolical and each shape has a specific meaning. The patterns (which may have meditative, religious, talismanic or totemic meaning) express the stories of their creators. This work investigates relationships of visual memories and predictions. Deriving inspiration from museum collections of prehistoric and antique artifacts, ornamental patterns and Roman wall paintings, vibrant, vivid colors, texture and symmetrical composition are in the center of my art research. Thinking and the dialogue about the meaning of an artwork is stimulated by the procedures of incorporating a figure or its parts into the tissue of abstract composition. Combination of layered, flat surface and calligraphy drawings on contrasting border around the main, central part of the composition emphasizes the relationship between an individual and its expectation.

Walking between the ruins in Pompeii (Naples, Italy) I have spotted my own shadow that coincided with the person painted on the ancient fresco wall. Slight movement of the shadow has animated the painted figure in the anticipation of what is going to come. The communication with it, maybe Genius loci, the ancient Roman protective spirit of place, influenced me to create the painting, on which the figure has been integrated into the abstract background of the composition. Red border surrounding the golden central part and black outlines of the character on the painting depict the relationship between an individual and its desires, hopes, expectations.
