"The light on this barn caught my eye and stopped me in my tracks as I meandered up back roads in Vermont, just North of Brattleboro, one summer. The angles and rough textures of the barn's seasoned wood contrasted with the backdrop of gold tapestry-like leaves. The dramatic curves of the mountains fascinated me as I explored the scene with camera in hand, etching the moment in my memory to explore again at a later date in paint."
Janis H. Sanders is an award winning American Realism artist who paints expressively and vigorously using a palette knife only, often en plein air, blending minimally to keep the freshness of the impression of that one moment. Drawing on the spirit of Cape Cod, where he lives and works, Sanders records the aroma of salt air, sunshine bouncing on the water of the North Shore, and the silence of the marsh. Sunlight spills joyfully onto his images of beach cottages and rugged cliffs, silhouetted against his signature brilliant blue skies. His work hangs in prestigious collections in the United States and overseas.
