High relief Eastern repoussé cuff bracelet from dimensionally patterned mokume gane with keum boo applied to countersunk areas
Combining historical techniques is a form of fusion cuisine. I interweave multiple ‘ingredients’ to hit a sweet spot of being familiar, even comforting, and yet creating something edgy that hasn’t been done before to get new ‘flavors.’ In Mysteries Entwined, I utilize the process of Eastern repoussé to pattern mokume gane and add keum boo. The result is a blend of technologies from Japan, Korea, and Egypt each lending a voice to a single object, yet adding mystery and complexity that are greater than the sum of their parts.
