Layers of collaged paper, paint and glazes depict my best friend in a booth at a restaurant. The suggested architecture that frames her and the slightly distorted objects in the foreground suggest a distinct time and place, yet there is also a feeling of mystery and timelessness with many details left out.
The foundation of my practice is noticing what catches my attention and transmitting those impressions into abstract paintings as an expression of my inner life. While tangible settings, figures, and objects are the formal subject matter, they serve as an entry point for examining my emotions. The dualities of absence and presence, specificity and ambiguity, and figuration and abstraction reveal a sense of disorientation and vulnerability.
