OL’ RED
Growing up we had an abusive little Banty rooster named Rojo who only liked two things: drinking Schlitz Beer and kicking, pecking and wing-slapping anyone that dared make direct eye contact with him. He was the tiniest rooster I’ve ever seen to this day, but he was the big bad master we all served. Anyone who had ever spent any time in his presence, still burn candles at shrines for him in some corner of their minds, finding ways to bring him up in conversations often.
Instead of sleeping recently, I was scrolling through Ebay looking at odd images of amateur art people were trying to sell for pocket change. I came across someone’s clumsy drawing of a rooster that had “OL’ RED” drawn under it in big letters. Clearly someone else has been brought to heel by a little red tyrant. And even though the person that made it clearly disliked drawing, they still served him dutifully by scrawling little effigies out of either devotion or fear. This can’t be a coincidence. It’s obvious that Rojo had another family he never told us about. It was news to me, but not a surprise in the least.
