Over the past couple of years several people have told me these sculptures have felt like soul medicine that’s been much needed as of late. Most often it’s been from people who own them and live with them. I love the effect they have in a space. I love them as a very heavy handed take on trompe l’oeil. Usually it’s thought of as a trick or a “fooling of the eye” where something that might appear real, is actually an artwork. These sculptures are clearly not any attempt to fool anyone. They’re honest. They’re truly 3-D cartoon drawings and paintings that take on the life role and exist in the actual space where the object they’re a drawing of would live. That potted plant isn’t losing it’s job to a robot, it’s job is being stolen by a cartoon. These plant sculptures live where plants would, and they carry out their task there of adding energy and life to a space. These add that energy through a prism of All- American pop culture and tell tragic and euphoric folk tales. The range of emotions in the blues and the story of art history morphing into Garfield. To be fair, there’s probably still enough room for the plant to keep it’s job because you really can’t have too many plants. Just remember not to water the sculptures.
As much as I love them, I’ll be stepping away from making sculpture for a while after these. When I eventually return they’ll likely exist in a very different format and will need to be at a much higher prices. If you’ve been wanting to live with your own or add additional ones to the collection, this is pretty much the time! I’ve got the prices shaved down to make it feasible for those that have been supportive over the years. It really means a lot to me. I’m down to do payments also on this group, and because I think they’re really best in groups, I’ll shave another 10% off if you adopt 3 or more of these puppies. (If you already have one at home, that discount will apply to 2 more to keep yours company!)
