The Poet Series from Sonya Rademeyer

The Poet Series consists of nine gestural drawings created in the dark. Following the cacophony of sounds produced by 30 handmade instruments created by The Khoisan Gypsy Band, an interesting series of SonicSketches have been created that are able to portray the diversity and uniqueness of the sounds heard. The drawn music reflects the exploration of a contemporary poet’s vocal narrative of well-known South African activist, writer and poet Adam Small (1936 -2016). Small’s work confronts racial discrimination often through satire. These drawings reflect the question asked: 'Who was this poet whose work still helps us to recognize our origins, to recognize ourselves in others and to explore our future together?'
