Lovers Crossing explores the shifting boundaries between bodies as they move through water—an environment where form dissolves, merges, and reappears. Two figures pass one another in a suspended, intimate moment, their limbs softened and distorted by the current. The surface of the water becomes both a veil and a mirror, obscuring and revealing in equal measure.
In this work, the act of crossing is not only physical but emotional: a fleeting encounter where identities blur and reform. The figures seem to drift between separation and unity, echoing the instability and permeability of human connection. The water holds them in a state of transition—neither fully distinct nor entirely merged.
Part of the ongoing series The Fluidity of Us, the painting reflects on how relationships shape and transform our sense of self. Through painterly gestures and layered colour, the work embraces ambiguity, allowing the image to remain open, shifting, and unresolved—much like the experience it seeks to capture.
