“From the character of the tiger, I was inspired by seeing the current situation on the island of Bali. The island of Bali is seen as a comfortable island. Used as a residence. And also as an asset or land for businesses. From my view, I painted a tiger sleeping on the king’s sofa. And Bali Island as patterned pillows.” Komang Suardiana
The works of Komang Suardiana in ‘Ruler’ and other pieces of ‘Social Animals’ are in an exciting transition. In the series ‘Social Animals‘ Suardiana is exploring his own aesthetic development. This is certainly happening . He is a master of realism. This realism is taking a subtle, surrealist and expressionistic turn. Embodying the reflections of the artist. His observations on the social conditions as experienced by the working class.
There is a beautiful combination of careful application and spontaneity. The marriage of these opposing rendering techniques gives a layered dimension to each of Suardiana’s pieces. Perhaps it gives a feeling that there is a duality. Certainly it highlights not only of visual contrasts but thematic ones as well.
