This still life exhibition situates words within paintings of vases, cups, teapots and glasses. This series is about labelling and how labels often define who and what we are in the world. These labels are often internalized, and can inform our choices, our ambitions and even our perceptions. What I want to question is the authority through which labelling, categorization, and value are constructed. Does being “labelled” as one thing mean more than the face value of the word? Does a label define your job, your career, your self identity? Is a label confining or freeing?
