A quiet moment of curiosity unfolds as a fox pauses to watch a dragonfly hovering nearby.
This bead mosaic was created in a very different way from much of my work. Rather than relying primarily on traditional seed and bugle beads, the fox is built from an eclectic collection of glass beads in many different sizes, shapes, finishes, and materials. Pearls, faceted beads, rounds, drops, textured pieces, and specialty beads come together to create the fox’s fur, markings, and expression.
The painted green background gives the composition a loose, expressive quality and allows the dimensional beadwork to really stand out. A jeweled dragonfly brooch adds one final unexpected element, becoming both a focal point and part of the story.
The result is a piece that feels part mosaic, and part painting, but all playful, textural, and completely one of a kind.
