A collection of paintings for an exhibition called 'Around the Corner' available to buy through Douglas Heritage Museum (or contact me). Set against a backdrop of darkness, these paintings are full of anticipation and hope. Pools of light spill out from behind corners highlighting unexpected views of this historic town. A curious tightly knit road layout of closes and wynds express its medieval heritage. Unusual roofscapes, a clock with links to Mary Queen of Scots, archways for former horse drawn carriages, steps leading to shadows of buildings now lost - all strange clues as to this town’s rich history. The name Douglas is of Gaelic origin and means ‘dark stream’ referring to the nearby Douglas Water. This small but historically significant village can be traced back to at least the 12th century – more to be discovered here https://www.douglaslanarkshire.scot/
