"Watching Spring" (48 x 48") captures the explosive energy of seasonal transformation—that moment when nature erupts from dormancy into vibrant life. This large-scale painting embodies spring's irrepressible force through dynamic color and gestural line work.
Working with both acrylic and oil allows me to build complexity quickly while maintaining luminous transparency. Cool blues and teals at the base suggest lingering winter, while brilliant greens surge upward, bursting into warm golds and oranges at the crown. Linear elements—drawn, scratched, and painted—evoke unfurling ferns, emerging shoots, the dendritic patterns of growth itself.
I wanted viewers to feel spring's energy rather than simply recognize its forms. This isn't passive observation but active witness to transformation. The painting invites you to experience that peculiar mix of chaos and order inherent in natural growth—wild abundance within underlying structure.
The large square format and energetic surface make this a powerful presence, bringing nature's vitality indoors.
