Roy McMakin’s woodwork defies categorization. His skillfully designed tables, chairs, and sofas fit as easily into a domestic space as they do into an art exhibition, and the degree of an object’s functionality is often determined by the environment in which it resides. Through playful recontextualization, McMakin encourages the viewer to re-examine our emotional and psychological response to common home furnishings. The 2010 Artpace alum created this exclusive design in celebration of Artpace’s 2013 Happening, Art Is an Adventure. These one-of-a-kind tables are made from readily available industrial materials and feature a tabletop overlaid in enameled green steel. Accommodating up to 10 guests, McMakin’s table can be easily deconstructed for transport, making it the perfect table or desk anywhere.
