Antony Gormley investigates the human body in relation to space and moments in time. Well known for his sculptures, installations, and public artworks, Gormley often utilizes his own body as the starting point for his artwork. FEEL II features a figure caught in a three-dimensional grid without perspective. The grid both supports and traps the figure, and like many pieces in his oeuvre, maps the human body in space. Gormley states, “Let's think of the space of the body as an unknown and start a three-dimensional exploration. It is a system that feels its way into this bodily darkness and touches the bounding condition, sometimes even breaking through it. That sense of exposing the unknowable to the light is important to me.”
