This print is inspired by the old saying "Es imposible tapar el sol con un dedo." "(It is impossible to cover the sun with one finger)" which Cabrera uses as a metaphor to show how some things larger than life and visible to all can only be partially covered. One cannot cover light or life in its totality, nor can we try to evade a problem with a quick solution. Blocking the light is an impossible feat because the sun is dynamic, quick in its movement, and shows up when you least expect it behind clouds and mountains.

  • Artist: Margarita Cabrera

Cabrera was born in México City and grew up in El Paso, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degree at Hunter College New York. In recent years, Cabrera has split her practice between her individual work and art collaborations. Cabrera’s art collaborations produce work that engages communities through transformative practices on both sides of the Mexico/United States border.
