Stealing Covers is yellow, hand-cast paper printed with heavily inked linocut applications, pulp painting, and hand-stamped using letterpress type to create the word “covers.” Mullins camouflaged the word “STEALING” to impact the implied act, which can have several meanings when applied to the more clearly read word “covers.” Mullins likes to signal a rare moment where the fragility of language is met with an equally rigorous and meticulous handling of painting.
The work is also in collections at the DC Commission on the Arts, Humanities Art Bank, and the Zimmerli Art Museum, New Brunswick, NJ.
