Legends II is a complex print, and the first lithograph created by the artist. Plattner’s hand drawings on mylar material were exposed to litho plates to create a mixed scene of revolutionary Mexican dolls standing tall in a serene Italian landscape. The images stem from the two foreign countries (Mexico and Italy) and cultures that Plattner has experienced extensively in her life. Requiring over ten color printings, including the golden color on the wooden frame around the image, the piece becomes a moving reliquary invented by Plattner. As an accomplished representational painter, Plattner took this opportunity to express her position as an anti-war activist. A veteran teacher of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Plattner has led the MICA program in Florence for many years, absorbing the luscious landscapes and skies as pictured here.
