Design/Web was printed on Japanese torinoko paper that has been rubbed with pearlescent pigments. The fine lines of the lithograph over the pigmented paper enhance the magical appearance and disappearance of the web structure. Yamaguchi printed this in the Riverdale studio with Nick Karvounis in a small edition of seven. Web has been a theme of Yamaguchi’s for several decades and has multiple meanings from nature itself to the age of digitization. The image simultaneously references organic shapes, molecules, viscera, synaptic structures, and networks, which are emblematic of the interconnectedness of all human and organic systems. The print also relates to web sculptures that Yamaguchi has designed as major installations.
