SEDUCTINI (3 Pandemic Diversions)
5 screens, 8 colors, 10 runs; Acrylic ink on Arches 88 paper;
Edition 1-9 (naturally, w/Sudoku theme), plus 3 Artist Proofs;
Printed, signed, and dated the week of Two’s Day, 2/22/22.
The print is a mash-up of 3 diversions during pandemic isolation: 1) Sudoku, 2) a classic pre-prandial Martini cocktail and 3) printmaking. Each number put into a Sudoku cell will strike that number from its row, column, and 3X3. Reductionist printmaking techniques (relief & stencil) require similar thinking; i.e., blocking out what is to be retained in next runs. The print’s concepts come from thinking about light, reflections, shadows, and distortions. I.e., from reflecting on reflections. Newspaper printing, halftones, graphite. But, it’s also about numbers: E.g., there’s only 1 olive.
