Artist: Adjoa J. Burrowes
Burrowes is a visual artist, author, and art educator. She earned a BFA in printmaking from Howard University and an MA in Art Education at Corcoran College of Arts and Design at The George Washington University. Burrowes has studied with contemporary artists in Africa and has presented her work in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Mexico, the Netherlands and France. As an art educator, Burrowes has designed and implemented a series of art and writing workshops and residencies for cultural institutions throughout the nation, including the John F. Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and the National Civil Rights Museum. Burrowes’ mixed media paintings, collages, paper sculptures, and hand-pulled prints have been exhibited throughout the U.S. and are represented in several collections including the Banneker-Douglass Museum of Culture and History, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Brooklyn Art Library, The Southside Community Art Center, Art Colle Museum of Collage in Plemet, France, and the Verbeke Foundation in Belgium.
