I am a contemporary printmaker and installation artist. Speaking in representational language, I utilize monochromatic color, pattern, and layers of transparent and opaque papers to create depth. Using varied transparency, I explore concepts related to mirroring, exposure, and clarity. My process involves methodically cutting away wood, wax paper, handmade papers, and plastics. I explore the hope-filled side of sorrow by evoking memory, longing, and loss.
In this body of work, I use red cheesecloth or gauze impressions. The monotypes are cut, woven together, sewn into, embroidered onto acrylic, and then suspended. By incorporating domestic practices and products, such as cake collar sheeting and paper towel holders, I reference my own experiences. However, this work is a visual ode to anyone who has experienced physical or internal limitations that have impacted their capacity to
function. The red gauze-like cloth ebbs and flows across the punctured, paper-thin expanse, symbolizing blood and body in its weak yet beautiful state.
