ARTIST Bio
Marty Ittner is a mixed-media artist who works in printmaking, encaustic collage, and installations. She has exhibited regularly in group shows in the Washington, D.C. area, nationally, and internationally since 2009. Her 2014 solo show Tangled Up in Blue featured cyanotypes made using plastic to make evident how plastic pollution is endangering the sea life in our oceans. A 10-foot scroll from this show featured a jelly fish shape made from plastic sheeting; it went on to be exhibited in other shows including the 3rd Biennial Maryland Regional Juried Art Exhibition at the University of Maryland University College and at Seacourt Print Workshop in Northern Ireland. Ms. Ittner is a member of Washington Wax Works — a DC collective of encaustic artists, and makes her living as a freelance graphic designer in Takoma Park, MD.
Artist Statement
Visual language and environmental activism are essential to my work. I explore improbable pairings of ephemeral images with printmaking to evoke the natural world. This interplay reflects the impact of human presence and ingenuity on our planet.
