Big Wave
- Lutz Hornischer
At shows, people often ask questions about the Wave sculptures from my Nature series: What inspired you? Is this one piece or many pieces of wood? Do you carve this from a big block?
Here is the secret! This series started through a "happy accident" in my studio. While working on a large sculpture, cut-off wood pieces accumulated on the floor. One day, I noticed the scattered pieces forming a ridge. So, I assembled the pieces on a table and played with it. I was intrigued by the formations I could make and started laminating pieces together, then carving and sanding. When I applied linseed oil at the very end, the final first Wave came to life.
