The two iconic bridges around the colorful koi-filled Long Life Lake at the Japanese Garden at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, Alabama is the subject of Miriam's painting. Miriam often painted at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and particularly enjoyed the Japanese Garden.
Officially opened in 1967 by the Japanese Ambassador to the United States just 22 years after the end of World War II, the Japanese Garden and the bridges are a symbol of peace between two countries once at war.
This work was part of a solo show at Aldridge Gardens in 2019.
