A selection of figurative and landscape paintings on paper reflecting on Michelle Boyle’s encounters with people and place in Ireland and Pune India . The artist’s approach to her subject goes beyond the descriptive , exploring the stories held in people and in the layered human landscape. In this she invites the viewer into the reflective space of her work to discover resonances with their own lives.
The paintings include portraits recently exhibited in Jehangir Art Gallery Mumbai , (with accompanying catalogue essay by art critic Georgina Maddox) and landscape paintings from a recent visit to Ananda Ashram Pune . Whilst in the ashram she was introduced to the Teach For India initiative for underprivileged children and some small sketches are included of the children’s drama programme. Through their performances as observed by the artist from the back of the room - she was impressed by the eloquent articulation of the problems these children face in their young lives and their hopes for a fairer and more equitable future.
These watercolours form Ananda are made on Pune Handmade Paper which is supporting the artist to show these works in their exhibition space, housed within their production facility in Shivajinagar.
Michelle Boyle’s work is in many international collections including UNESCO, Microsoft International, KPMG , The Irish State Collection. She has received international shortlistings and awards for her watercolours and has been selected later this year to show in the European Watercolour Symposium in Bilbao Spain.
