Beyond the Pale investigates the limits of artistic identity, distance, and conceptual stretch. Moving away from traditional visual continuity, the series explores how far an artist can push their practice away from their established centre before the work becomes unrecognisable—or before a new artistic persona emerges entirely.
Comprising 26 works, the series juxtaposes isolated anatomical fragments—specifically mouths, lips, and facial gestures—against bold, flat fields of saturated colour. By stripping these photographic elements of their original context and embedding them within hard-edged graphic planes, the works interrogate the space between the artist, the viewer, and the creation of heteronyms. Taking cues from theoretical exercises in identity like those of Fernando Pessoa or Søren Kierkegaard, Beyond the Pale asks whether the ultimate work of art is not the individual physical object but the constructed persona behind it.
