Positive Negative explores the physical tension between presence, void, and spatial division. Drawing conceptual and visual inspiration from Barnett Newman’s late period—where his signature "zip" expanded from a painted line into a structural, spatial divide—this series translates chromatic fields into three-dimensional, relief-like wall objects.
Across four square compositions, high-gloss colour planes are disrupted by deep, recessive cuts and negative channels. Rather than treating the surface as a flat canvas, the works activate the space in front of and within the object. The stark interplay between saturated enamel/lacquer finishes and shadow-filled voids reinterprets Newman's vertical thresholds, questioning where the artwork ends and the surrounding architectural space begins.
