“Perennial” from Marjorie Schwartz

Once she bites the apple, the serpent is cursed and his legs are removed for eternity. The title is also the title of book by Eric Fromm that offers an interpretation of Judaism as humanism - that instead of merely worshipping God we should aspire to be like God.
