This basket is crafted entirely from plants gathered near my home in Portland, Maine. Alternating bands of cattail, iris, and Hosta fibers shift in color, recording changes in material and tension as the form rises. The slightly tapered shape and reinforced rim highlight practical craftsmanship and the use of everyday garden and wetland plants in traditional weaving.
