I made this painting during my residency at Vashon and spent so much time hunting for shells and allowing myself to believe in magic and run with whatever came to mind. I got stuck on this idea that you can supposedly hear the ocean when you put a shell up to your ear. I imagined it to be a magic shell that whispers prophecies and hypnotizes the person who listens to it. I got inspired also by my tendency to see a face in most inanimate objects and by visions of the Madonna or Elvis in toast or clouds, why not this shell?
