ON PHOTOGRAPHY
Through photography, I in turn create portraits of each of these artists. It is in the studio that their character and personality take shape and reveal themselves.
In 2013, I began photographing the Roma. I wanted to recall the smell of Romanian recipes through the photos. But the photos soon revealed that the people in my lens were like everyone else; human beings - some good and some bad. Beyond this, Roma culture contains the collective experience of human misery: hunger, young girls having babies from the age of 13, large families without means. I stopped photographing the Tziganes when their shantytown was demolished.
Photography is very subjective. Taking a photo is not respectful. I believe you reveal everything in photography. There are always two points of view: the interpretation of the photographer and that of the spectator.
