This landscape holds the kind of memory that lives before language. The stories we were told before we could speak, the dreams that visit without invitation, the songs we find ourselves humming without knowing where they came from.

Some stories find us through the soles of our feet, rising up from the earth long before the mind has a chance to name them. Water follows a path already written into the land, and yet in moving it is also carving the way. Over time, gravity, stone, and flowing water etch their histories into the surface of the earth, shaping channels that feel both ancient and inevitable.

This work draws on the instinctual pull of the Wild Woman archetype, the force that asks us to remove the blindfolds from the soles of our feet and trust what the body senses before the mind understands. She leaves muddy footprints to try on for size, small signs that the way forward has been travelled long before we arrive.

My creative process mirrors this same instinct. Colour is a language that speaks in many volumes. By constructing this composition from the bones up through colour blocking and strategic layering, I developed the depth and dimensional resonance the surface now holds. Over time, the surface reached a point of energetic tension before being sealed with a thick final coat, a ritualistic burial. As in nature, destruction becomes a necessary precursor to transformation.

The excavation phase echoed the act of unearthing something long buried. Unaware of what lay beneath, I re-curated the composition with power tools in hand, carving through layers of pigment to reveal the history embedded in the surface, imperfect, unpredictable, and alive.
