My kitchen has always been a transitional place for all things coming and going from my house. During the time that the idea for this painting came to me we were undergoing a kitchen renovation. The walls had not yet been painted but, due to the busyness of our lives, the backpack hooks for my kids and the large family calendar went up. Quickly the hooks were filled with backpacks, jackets, instrument cases and other items. Papers spilled out of backpacks and littered the floor. Typically I would have become annoyed that we cannot have anything neat, but the way the sun was pouring through the not-yet-covered window had me stop and look again. It reminded me that this is our life - our frequently crazy, often mundane and yet beautiful, life.
