A Framed Collection of Dunkirk and Ramsgate Commemorative Covers
Comprising two mounted philatelic commemorative covers, framed together.
An interesting pair of commemorative postal covers relating to the Dunkirk evacuation and Ramsgate’s maritime heritage. The upper cover marks the 30th Anniversary of Dunkirk and bears the inscription “Salute to the Little Ships of Dunkirk” with a Ramsgate, Kent cancellation dated 21st June 1970. The illustrated cover depicts the evacuation beaches under bombardment and was issued for the Dunkirk Veterans Association.
The lower example is a Royal Mail First Day Cover featuring a Medway Queen commemorative cancellation from Ramsgate. The Medway Queen, celebrated for her role in Operation Dynamo, became one of the best-known “Little Ships” involved in the Dunkirk evacuation of 1940.
Together the pieces form an evocative tribute to Britain’s wartime maritime history and Ramsgate’s enduring association with the Dunkirk rescue operations. Presented in a gilt frame with double aperture mount.
