In this room I have tried to mix up the sense of the coast both in winter and summer, here in the UK and abroad.
I purchased a few Alan Welsfords about 15 years ago. I like the style and the light that emanates from them. This one of Dover Docks and the approach road conjures up those feelings of pure joyous anticipation as you drive down the hill and catch sight of those huge ferries which are going to take you away on your holiday or weekend away.

Alan Welsford (b. 1935) is a British painter, sculptor, film artist, and educator known for his contributions to mid-20th-century art. Born in Hainault, Essex, he embarked on his artistic journey after completing national service in the Royal Air Force. Welsford studied painting and sculpture at Walthamstow School of Art from 1956 to 1959 and continued his education at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1959 to 1963.

Throughout his career, Welsford has exhibited his work in various venues. Notably, he showcased his paintings in an exhibition titled "Abcom Series: Paintings 1997-2005" at the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery from April 9 to May 22, 2005.
