Frank de Vine Hunt

Frank A. De Vine Hunt was a British naval staff officer during World War II, serving in Winston Churchill's War Rooms. Post-war, he created a detailed map titled "Dunkirk to Berlin, June 1940 – July 1945," illustrating Churchill's wartime journeys. This map, published in 1947 by George Philip & Son Ltd. in association with "Time & Tide," highlights key trips, including those to the United States, Canada, and significant conferences like Casablanca.

Before publication, De Vine Hunt sought Churchill's permission for the map. In an April 18, 1946 letter, Churchill responded:

"I have no objection at all to Lady Rhondda’s publishing a map of my journeys. I only wondered whether there would be sufficient public interest to justify the expense which she would incur, but if she is satisfied about that, and it is your desire and hers, I should be very glad indeed."

The map has since become a collectible item, with copies held by institutions like the National Library of New Zealand.

Additionally, De Vine Hunt authored "Recollections of the Early Days of the Vine Hunt and of its Founder William John Chute, Esq.," providing historical insights into English fox hunting and the establishment of the Vine Hunt by William John Chute.
