Heavy Seas
Oil on canvas, signed (illegible)
A dramatic and highly atmospheric marine painting depicting rolling waves beneath a turbulent, storm-darkened sky. Executed with vigorous brushwork and richly textured impasto, the composition captures the raw movement and power of the sea, with curling breakers rendered in deep blue-green tones heightened by flashes of white foam and coppery reflected light.
The artist employs broad sweeping strokes and expressive tonal contrasts to evoke the changing moods of the open water, creating a work that is both energetic and contemplative. The low horizon and expansive sky lend the composition a cinematic sense of scale, while the rhythmic structure of the waves recalls aspects of mid-20th century expressionist marine painting.
Possibly painted by an accomplished amateur or regional artist, the work possesses strong decorative impact and would particularly suit coastal or maritime interiors. Unframed.

I rescued this rather dramatic sea picture about 20 years ago from a skip around the corner in Liverpool Lawn here in Ramsgate. I couldn't quite believe it hadn't been damaged in any way and so was rather chuffed to have given it a new life here in room 15.
I know nothing of the artist?
